anniversary of home!
This past weekend we celebrated one whole year in our home in Astoria, Oregon on the banks of the Columbia River and near the Pacific Ocean. We bought a beautiful bottle of bubbles (yum!) from our favorite wine shop in town and a bucket of fried chicken from a local gas station/taphouse/laundromat(!!), essentially the same way we celebrated our offer being accepted a year ago. We laughed about how I wouldn’t believe the house was ours until there was “ink to paper”, the projects we have done so far, and those we have left to do.
I may have mentioned this before, but we both adored this 1914 Craftsman home from the moment we first walked in back in July 2020, at the height of the pandemic. We immediately felt the good vibes of the family before us who spent years raising their children here and entertaining family, friends, and neighbors. It just felt good and like something we wanted to carry on with our loved ones. Of course, that didn’t happen exactly how we wanted thanks to Covid, but we already have some special memories in spite of this year’s challenges.
We also spent our weekend celebrating by hanging more art in the stairwell, doing more yard work including planting additional flowers since many of our flowers have been gobbled up by a combination of heat, deer, and an “enemy from within”, our darling plant-eating Shiba Inu.
So, here’s to anniversaries, birthdays, bbqs, family and friend visits, cool summers, and rainy falls and winters. Filling our home up with love and memories is such a privilege and one that we will continue to appreciate each and every day.
