perfection

I was talking with a dear friend a few days ago about the importance of having my website complete and my social media channels “live” in a well-oiled and coordinated effort for the launch of my new business. I envisioned that all aspects of the website would be working, the “short takes” section of my website would be coordinated perfectly with Instagram posts, and when it was all ready, I would make a big announcement and POOF just like that, I would be open for business. The emails and messages would start coming in and I would start taking the names of all the folks who sought my services! Like a big, ‘ole, virtual pair of ribbon-cutting scissors! Champagne popping to boot! YAY!

Well, it might not have happened exactly that way but our conversation did remind me of an article I had read recently about perfection in interior decorating and the ridiculous notion that we must always seek perfection. Not only is it unrealistic, it is also unsustainable and counterproductive to living a relaxed and healthy lifestyle - something we all strive to achieve.

We want to enjoy our spaces. We don’t want to stress over our spaces. We want our guests to feel welcome when they visit, not like they are entering a museum. Life isn’t perfect, nor are any of us. Just as we give grace to others in life, we must give grace to ourselves.

I believe that creating spaces that fit with the way we live plays a huge part in our stress levels and the joy we find in life. So let’s give grace to those imperfections and not finding the “EXACT” rug or plant, as it will likely turn out that those were not the “right” choices anyway.

I too will give grace to myself. And with that, after a few content speed bumps and a couple timing issues, I am happy to say, I am open for business! Where’s the champagne and the giant pair of scissors?! Let me know how I can help you create your dream space!
